The HID OMNIKEY 3121 is a USB smart card reader designed for organizations that work with contact smart cards on a daily basis and need a reliable reader at a fixed workstation. Compatible with virtually any contact smart card

The OMNIKEY 3121 supports contact smart cards compliant with ISO 7816 and is compatible with Class A, B, and C cards. HID states that the reader is compatible with virtually any contact smart card and a wide range of applications. Examples cited by HID include single sign-on, online banking, and digital signatures.

Easy to integrate into existing systems

The reader supports key standards such as ISO 7816, USB CCID, PC/SC, and HBCI. Thanks to USB CCID, the OMNIKEY 3121 can use the operating system’s native CCID driver. This makes integration into existing smart card and IT environments easy and, in many cases, eliminates the need for additional driver installation.

Designed for a fixed workstation

Unlike a compact mobile reader, the OMNIKEY 3121 was specifically designed as a desktop reader. The reader features a rugged ABS housing and can be positioned either horizontally or vertically using various stand configurations. The USB Type-A cable is 150 cm long, allowing you to easily position the reader in a suitable spot on your desk.

Works with the major operating systems

The OMNIKEY 3121 supports Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android, among other operating systems. The reader operates via USB 2.0 Full Speed and has also been tested for extensive use with USB 3.0 hubs and controllers. For software integration, it supports the standardized PC/SC API.

Reliable for intensive daily use

The OMNIKEY 3121 is designed for 100,000 card insertions and supports automatic smart card type detection. In addition, the reader features automatic power-off and protection against short circuits and overheating. HID specifies an MTBF of 500,000 hours and offers a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
