Compact contactless smart card reader for secure identification and modern access solutions

The HID OMNIKEY 5022 is a compact USB reader designed for organizations that use 13.56 MHz contactless smart cards, tags, and NFC devices. The reader is designed for secure authentication and can be used, for example, for computer logins, access to networks and cloud environments, and two-factor authentication. This allows existing employee ID cards to be used more widely within the organization.

Supports MIFARE, DESFire, and NFC

The OMNIKEY 5022 supports various contactless technologies operating at 13.56 MHz. According to HID, the reader supports MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Ultralight, Ultralight C, MIFARE Plus, and MIFARE DESFire EV1, EV2, and EV3, among others. It also supports ISO 14443 A/B, ISO 15693, and iCLASS for CSN readout. For DESFire EV1, EV2, and EV3, specific conditions apply when the AID and files are not secured or encrypted.

Also compatible with NFC and FIDO2

In addition to contactless smart cards, the OMNIKEY 5022 supports NFC Tag Types 1 through 4 and NFC devices for FIDO and FIDO2. The datasheet also specifies read and write capabilities for FIDO2 NFC tokens. This makes the reader suitable for modern authentication solutions in which NFC is part of the security process.

Easy to install

The OMNIKEY 5022 uses the operating system’s native CCID driver. As a result, no additional driver installation is required on supported systems. The reader also supports the PC/SC API and is compatible with Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, and Google ChromeOS, among others.

Compact design for any workspace

Measuring 59 × 59 × 11.4 mm and weighing approximately 70 grams, the OMNIKEY 5022 takes up very little space. The reader is available with either a USB Type-A or USB Type-C connector, and various cable lengths are available. Optional mounting accessories and a card holder are also available.

Designed for professional use

HID lists healthcare, pharmaceutical companies, financial services, businesses, and government organizations, among others, as typical environments for the OMNIKEY 5022. The reader has a specified MTBF of 500,000 hours and comes with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
